Zambia Ladies Open 2014

THE 2014 ZAMBIA LADIES OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

The ZambiaLadies Golf Union has nominated Ndola Golf Club to host the prestigious 2014 ZambiaLadies Open Golf Tournament to be held from 28th to 30th March 2014.  One to two Pro-Ams will be held on the 26th and 27th March depending on the number of sponsors.  This Tournament is the FIRST EVER visit toZambia by the South African Women’s P.G.A.  Sunshine Tour and is extra special in that the year 2014 is the GOLDEN JUBILEE YEAR for theZambia Ladies Golf Union.

The budgeted cost of this very special event will be in the region of SAR1,000,000 (one million South African Rands only) or K500,000 (five hundred thousand Kwacha only) to cover the cost of the prize money, travel and accommodation expenses for Sunshine Tour officials for the pre-tournament meetings and inspection of the course and during the tournament.  Other costs include club house and course renovations and improvements to meet international standards.

A development clinic is to be run during the event offering coaching by the visiting Professionals to local junior lady golfers.

Ndola Golf Club has in turn appointed a very high powered committee to spearhead the preparations and all the logistics necessary for this international event.  The Committee consists of Ndola Golf Club and ZLGU members who have had extensive experience in organizing such tournaments such as Zone VI, The Zambia Opens, Ladies Opens and Club Opens.

Members of this Committee are the following:

The Committee is looking for a Title Sponsor both locally and internationally and sponsors for the Pro-Ams.  A number of companies have been approached but this being a Festive Period, no answers are expected until next week.  We will keep all informed on the progress.  The contact persons for all sponsorships are Messrs Ron Bouverie and Andries Scott.  In the Midlands we have theZambiaLadies Golf Union President, Moono Mwila.

The club has gone into full gear in organizing local fundraising tournaments and will start with a Cross Country competition at the Club on 19th January 2014 which is expected to raise a minimum of K25,000 (Twenty five thousand Kwacha only).  Work on the course has started in earnest and the course is very playable at this time of the year.   We appeal to sponsors, large and small to support us in this venture either in cash or in kind.

The Organising Committee feels greatly humbled to be tasked to deliver this, I repeat, THIS FIRST EVER LADIES OPEN inZambia.  We hope it will be the catalyst to produce the first ever lady Zambian golfer in the not too distant  a future….

Thank you

Alex Mashano - CHAIRMAN
